Procedures to Request Use of Bankruptcy Court Space

Any use of U.S. Bankruptcy Court space requires advance permission from the Bankruptcy Court.

NOTE: Rooms 1245 and 1268 on the 12th floor of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Los Angeles have been released by the Bankruptcy Court to GSA and are no longer available for outside agency use. These rooms may not be reserved using the Court's space reservation procedures.

1.  Application

Requests to use U.S. Bankruptcy Court space must be made by written application at least 30 calendar days prior to the requested date(s) of use, unless otherwise agreed to in writing.  The application should be completed and either emailed to CourtSpace_Request@cacb.uscourts.gov or mailed to the address below:

United States Bankruptcy Court
Attn: Office of the Executive Officer/Clerk of Court
255 E Temple Street, Suite 1050
Los Angeles, CA 90012

The Application to Use Bankruptcy Court Space and Agreement of Responsibility form to make a request to use Bankruptcy Court Space is attached to this policy statement. Additional applications or permits may be required, as determined by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) building manager (or other official designated by GSA), to whom the applicant must apply for separately.

2.  Approval

Normally, within 14 calendar days of receipt of the application to use Bankruptcy Court space, the Bankruptcy Court will notify the applicant of its decision to approve or deny an application. The Bankruptcy Court generally approves applications to use its space on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

3.  Cost

The applicant requesting use of Bankruptcy Court space is responsible for any costs associated with overtime use of Bankruptcy Court space (including but not limited to on-duty building security personnel charges by the U.S. Marshals Service or extraordinary or overtime building maintenance charges by the GSA). The Clerk’s Office will advise the applicant on how to contact the appropriate agencies to obtain price information for overtime use of Bankruptcy Court space. Use of Bankruptcy Court space outside the normal building operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. may result in the applicant being charged for additional costs for overtime use of space.

4.  Standard Accommodations

Typical accommodations for an approved use of Bankruptcy Court space include the space itself, and the services normally provided for court space, such as routine cleaning, heating and air-conditioning. Applicants may be required to reimburse the court for services over and above those normally provided during normal building operating hours.

  • Food service is not permitted in Bankruptcy Court space unless the applicant submits a written food service plan as part of the Application to Use Bankruptcy Court Space and Agreement of Responsibility, which food service plan is expressly approved by the Clerk in writing. No alcohol is permitted in Bankruptcy Court space, except by approval of the Chief Bankruptcy Judge.

Each applicant is responsible for restoring the used Bankruptcy Court space to its original condition as determined by the Clerk in her discretion. The Clerk’s Office will arrange for the disposal of properly bagged trash from the permitted use of Bankruptcy Court space.  Failure to properly bag trash from a permitted use of space may result in the imposition of additional costs on the applicant.

5.  Technology Accommodations

The applicant must specifically list any technology or audio/visual equipment requests on the Application to Use Bankruptcy Court Space and Agreement of Responsibility. The Clerk’s Office will coordinate with the Bankruptcy Court’s Courtroom Technology Division to verify whether Bankruptcy Court staff is available to provide the accommodation and will provide estimates of additional costs, if applicable.  Bankruptcy Court staff is generally unavailable outside normal Bankruptcy Court business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
