Hearings in Court: Meeting of Creditors: LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS

1-13:  Hearings in Court: Meeting of Creditors: LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS

Court Hearings: During a hearing, the judge has the discretion to determine that language interpreter assistance is needed for a litigant. If so, the judge may direct a courtroom clerk to contact a service that provides free interpreter assistance during the hearing. See link below.

341(a) Meetings of Creditors: The United States Trustee provides a telephone interpreter program available at § 341(a) meetings for virtually every language. Because the § 341(a) Meeting of Creditors is not a judicial proceeding, requests for a sign language interpreter at these meetings must be made directly to the trustee assigned to the case. All requests should be made at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. See link below.

  • VERY IMPORTANTSince April 2020, all Meetings of Creditors have been held by telephone or videoconference.  See Section 4 of The Central Guide (link to Rule 2003) for instructions on appearing by phone or video at the Meeting of Creditors.
